  • 0.25 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.125 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 0.125 teaspoon chili powder
  • 0.125 teaspoon black pepper
Cheese Sauce
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese shredded
  • 0.66 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Toppings
  • 3 tablespoons ranch dressing

Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • Small Pot
  • Whisk

Method

  1. Preheat your oven according to the specific directions on your frozen French fries package. For the best results and easiest cleanup, line a large baking sheet with parchment paper, aluminum foil, or a silicone mat.
  2. In a small mixing bowl, combine the light brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, cayenne pepper, chili powder, and black pepper. Stir until the spices are well incorporated.
1.5 teaspoons light brown sugar, 0.25 teaspoon garlic powder, 0.25 teaspoon onion powder, 0.25 teaspoon smoked paprika, 0.25 teaspoon salt, 0.125 teaspoon cayenne pepper, 0.125 teaspoon chili powder, 0.125 teaspoon black pepper
  3. Spread the frozen fries in a single, even layer on your prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle the seasoning mix over the fries, reserving about 0.5 teaspoon of the blend for the final garnish. Toss the fries gently to ensure they are evenly coated.
    1 package frozen French fries
  4. Place the fries in the oven and bake according to the package instructions until they are golden brown and crispy.
  5. While the fries are baking, prepare the cheese sauce. Melt the butter in a small pot over medium-high heat. Whisk in the all-purpose flour and cook for approximately one minute to create a roux.
    2 tablespoons butter, 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  6. Slowly pour in the milk while whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Once the mixture is smooth, begin adding the shredded cheddar cheese in small batches. Continue stirring over low heat until the cheese is completely melted and the sauce is velvety.
2 cups cheddar cheese, 0.66 cup milk
  7. Once the fries are finished, transfer them to a serving platter. Drizzle the warm cheese sauce and the ranch dressing over the top. Finish by sprinkling the remaining seasoning mix over the dish and serve immediately.
    3 tablespoons ranch dressing

Notes

For the smoothest cheese sauce possible, always shred your own cheese from a block rather than using pre-shredded bags. Additionally, make sure to toss the fries with the seasoning before they go into the oven.
