Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup 10.5 ounce
  • Salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 package frozen tater tots 16 ounce
  • 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

Method

  1. Gather all your ingredients and preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, stirring frequently to break it apart, until it is completely browned and crumbly. This should take approximately 7 to 10 minutes.
  3. Once the beef is cooked, drain any excess grease from the skillet. Stir in the condensed cream of mushroom soup and season the mixture with salt and black pepper according to your taste.
  4. Transfer the beef and soup mixture into a 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading it out into an even layer across the bottom.
  5. Arrange the frozen tater tots in an even layer over the top of the beef mixture. Sprinkle the shredded Cheddar cheese evenly over the tater tots.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 45 minutes. The casserole is ready when the tater tots are golden brown, the cheese is melted, and the filling is bubbling hot.

Notes

Always drain the fat from your ground beef after browning to prevent the casserole from becoming greasy. For the best flavor and meltability, shred your own cheese from a block rather than using pre-shredded bags.
