Ingredients
  

  • 2 1/2 teaspoons instant dry yeast rapid rise also works
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water aim for 110F
  • 2 Tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 1/4 cup butter melted
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese the powdered variety
  • Marinara Sauce for dipping

Method
 

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the instant dry yeast, warm water, and white sugar. Mix the ingredients slightly.

  2. Cover the bowl with a clean dish towel and let it stand for about 5 minutes to allow the yeast to proof.
  3. Once the yeast mixture is bubbly and active, add the salt and vegetable oil. Mix well.

  4. Begin adding the bread flour one cup at a time, ensuring you mix thoroughly between each addition.

  5. After all the flour has been incorporated, continue to knead the dough for an additional 5 minutes until it reaches the right consistency.
  6. Lightly flour a clean work surface and roll the dough out until it is approximately 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Using a pizza cutter, cut the dough into breadsticks that are about 1/2 inch wide.
  8. Lay the breadsticks out on a lined cookie sheet. Make sure to leave at least 1/4 inch of space between each stick as they will expand while resting and baking.
  9. Cover the pan with a clean dish towel and let the dough rest and rise in a warm place for 20 minutes.
  10. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  11. Bake the breadsticks for 10 minutes or until they are golden brown.
  12. Immediately after removing them from the oven, brush the melted butter over the hot breadsticks and generously coat them with the powdered parmesan cheese.

Notes

To make the process even smoother, use a stand mixer equipped with a dough hook to handle the kneading. Be careful not to use too much flour on your work surface, as an excess can make the breadsticks tough rather than fluffy.
