Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound ground beef 80/20 for optimal flavor
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari for gluten-free
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger minced
  • 2 green onions chopped (plus extra for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups cooked rice jasmine, basmati, or brown rice
  • Sesame seeds optional topping
  • Sliced cucumber optional topping
  • Kimchi or pickled vegetables optional topping
  • Bell peppers, carrots, broccoli, or spinach optional vegetables
  • Fried egg optional topping

Method
 

  1. Prepare the Rice: If you are not using leftover rice, cook your preferred variety using a stove, rice cooker, or Instant Pot until fluffy and tender.

  2. Brown the Beef: Place a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the ground beef. Use a spatula to break the meat apart as it cooks, browning it for 5 to 7 minutes until no pink remains.

  3. Add Aromatics: Drain any excess fat from the skillet if necessary. Stir in the minced garlic and minced ginger, cooking for an additional 1 to 2 minutes until they become fragrant.

  4. Season the Meat: Stir in the soy sauce, sesame oil, and chopped green onions. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then let the mixture simmer for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.

  5. Assemble the Bowls: Start by spooning a generous amount of cooked rice into the bottom of each bowl. Top with the seasoned ground beef mixture.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For the best flavor and juiciness, use 80/20 ground beef.
