Ingredients

  • 2 lbs frozen homestyle meatballs beef, turkey, or chicken
  • 1 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce optional, for added depth of flavor
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds for garnish
  • 2 green onions thinly sliced, for garnish

Equipment

  • Slow Cooker

Method

  1. Place the frozen homestyle meatballs into the bowl of your slow cooker.
    2 lbs frozen homestyle meatballs
  2. In a small bowl or directly over the meatballs, add the sweet chili sauce, ketchup, and the optional soy sauce.
1 cup sweet chili sauce, 3/4 cup ketchup, 1 tbsp soy sauce
  3. Stir the mixture thoroughly to ensure every meatball is evenly coated in the sauce.
  4. Cover the slow cooker with its lid. Cook on high for 3 hours or on low for 5 to 6 hours.
  5. About halfway through the cooking time, give the meatballs a gentle stir to redistribute the glaze.
  6. Once the meatballs are heated through and the sauce is bubbly and thick, sprinkle with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
1 tbsp sesame seeds, 2 green onions
  7. Serve immediately or set the slow cooker to the warm setting for party serving.

Notes

To thicken the sauce, remove the lid for the last 30 minutes of cooking so excess moisture evaporates. Use homestyle or plain meatballs rather than Italian-seasoned ones to avoid clashing with the Asian-inspired flavors.
