Ingredients

Cream Cheese Base
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
Cranberry Mixture
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
Jalapeno and Flavor Enhancers
  • 1-2 jalapenos seeded and finely minced (adjust to taste)
  • 0.25 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 0.25 teaspoon garlic powder

Equipment

  • Small Saucepan
  • Medium Bowl
  • Plastic Wrap

Method

  1. Make the Cranberry Sauce: In a small saucepan, combine cranberries, sugar, water, and orange zest. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  2. Simmer and Thicken: Cook for 8-10 minutes, or until the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened slightly. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  3. Prepare the Cream Cheese: In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth and creamy.
  4. Combine Ingredients: Add the cooled cranberry sauce, minced jalapenos, cilantro, lime juice, and garlic powder to the cream cheese.
  5. Mix Well: Beat until all ingredients are evenly distributed and the dip is a vibrant pink color.
  6. Chill: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  7. Serve: Serve chilled with your favorite dippers.

Notes

Use full-fat cream cheese for best flavor and texture. Wear gloves when handling jalapenos. Adjust jalapeno quantity to taste. Ensure cranberry sauce is completely cooled before mixing to prevent cream cheese from melting. No need to thaw frozen cranberries. Chilling for at least 30 minutes is crucial for flavor development. Serve with tortilla chips, pita chips, crackers, or vegetable dippers. Can also be used as a spread for bagels or sandwiches.
