Ingredients

For the Patties
  • 1 pound ground beef lean
  • 0.5 cup breadcrumbs
  • 0.25 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • salt and pepper to taste
For the "Crack" Sauce
  • 0.5 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 dash cayenne pepper optional
For Serving
  • 4 burger buns
  • lettuce leaves
  • tomato slices
  • onion slices
  • cheese slices cheddar, American, or your favorite

Equipment

  • Large Bowl
  • Skillet or grill pan
  • Small Bowl

Method

  1. Prepare the Patties: In a large bowl, gently mix together the ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Don't overmix!
  2. Form the Patties: Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties about 3/4 inch thick.
  3. Cook the Patties: Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they are cooked through and no longer pink inside. Add cheese during the last minute of cooking.
  4. Make the "Crack" Sauce: While the patties are cooking, whisk together the mayonnaise, mustard, relish, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using) in a small bowl.
  5. Assemble the Burgers: Spread some of the "Crack" sauce on the top and bottom buns. Layer with lettuce, tomato slices, onion slices, and the cooked burger patty. Serve immediately.

Notes

Don't overmix the patty ingredients to avoid tough burgers. Cook patties until no longer pink inside. Add cheese during last minute of cooking for perfect melt. The 'crack' sauce can be adjusted to taste - add more cayenne for extra spice. Serve immediately for best texture and flavor.
