  • 1/4 tsp Garlic Powder

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Large Bowl
  • Baking Sheet
  • Wire Rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened cream cheese and shredded cheddar cheese. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  3. Add the flour, garlic powder, and salt to the cheese mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. Roll the dough into small, bite-sized balls.
  5. Place the balls on an ungreased baking sheet.
  6. Use your thumb (or the back of a small spoon) to make an indentation in the center of each ball.
  7. Fill each indentation with a small spoonful of Cheesy Thumbprint Appetizers Hot Pepper Jelly.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  9. Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

For the best texture, make sure your cream cheese is properly softened before you start. If your dough is too sticky, try chilling it in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes before rolling into balls. Using a small cookie scoop can help ensure that all your thumbprints are uniform in size. Don't overfill the indentations with the hot pepper jelly, as it can bubble over during baking. If you want to add a bit of extra flavor, consider mixing a tablespoon of finely chopped green onions into the cheese dough. Be careful not to overbake the thumbprints, as they can become dry. They are done when the edges are just lightly golden. Keep a close eye on them during the last few minutes of baking. Always let the appetizers cool slightly before serving to allow the jelly to set and prevent burning your mouth.
