  • 6-8 oz Thinly sliced pepperoni
  • 3-4 oz Thinly sliced prosciutto
Charcuterie Board Essentials:
  • 4-6 oz Assorted cheeses (cheddar, brie, gouda) each
  • 1 box/loaf Crackers or baguette slices
  • 1 cup Assorted fruits (grapes, berries, apple slices) each
  • ½ cup Olives (green and black) each
  • ¼ cup Nuts (almonds, walnuts) each
  • ¼ cup Jam or honey
  • Rosemary sprigs or other herbs optional, for garnish

Equipment

  • Serving board
  • Small dish
  • Toothpicks

Method

  1. Gather your ingredients and clear a workspace.
  2. For each meat flower, start by folding a slice of salami or pepperoni in half, then in half again to form a cone.
  3. Secure the base of the cone with a toothpick if needed.
  4. Arrange the cones in a circular pattern on your serving board, starting with the center and working outwards.
  5. Use different meats to create variety and visual appeal. Consider using prosciutto for a softer, more delicate petal look.
  6. Fill the gaps between the meat flowers with cheeses, crackers, fruits, and olives.
  7. Add a small dish of jam or honey for dipping.
  8. Garnish with rosemary sprigs for a finishing touch.
  9. Serve immediately and enjoy the reactions!

Notes

The key to beautiful meat flowers is using thinly sliced meats that are flexible enough to fold without breaking. If the salami or pepperoni seems too stiff, try letting it sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften. Don't be afraid to experiment with different sizes and shapes for your flowers, creating a mix of large, bold blooms and smaller, delicate buds. Toothpicks are your friend! Use them to secure the petals of your flowers, especially if you're transporting the board. Consider layering the flowers by using different types of meat and arranging them in concentric circles. Finally, keep the color palette in mind – varying shades of red, pink, and pale orange will make the flowers truly pop against the backdrop of your board.
